Laz's typical Avatar, if you see this, that's Laz.
Median 2008 is a mod for Diablo II Lord of Destruction 1.1 or 1.11 by Brother Laz. It replaces the skill trees with 210 all-new skills; improves monster AI and behaviour; adds 18+1 new difficult uberquests for high level characters; replaces the item system, stats, runes, gems, uniques, sets, and runewords; and adds 3 attribute challenges which reward players for spending fewer stat points, and 2 level challenges which reward players for beating bosses at a low level. Median 2008 is a modification of Diablo II?s single player game which adds new quests, skills, items, and much more! This modification is not meant to be a substitute for unmodified single player; it is merely an alternative mode of play for those who have already beaten the game and are looking for a fresh perspective on things.

The last 3 runes aka the Great Runes of Median XL. Extremely rare and provide great runeword items.

The list of runes are adding in nicely as Median evolves into a bigger and more challenging version. Compared to a 33 rune list in Classic Diablo2: LOD, the latest version of Median Alpha has 53 runes, including 3 great runewords (last 3 runes in the image above - Taha, Ghal & Qor). To those who were ecstatic to get a Zod will find that the rune list has been bumped up to an additional 20. In Median, there are certain drop biased areas where runes have higher chances or dropping, making it a hot area for rune farming. Crafting points which is also another feature in Median, allow you to upgrade and downgrade runes if you're just too lazy to farm for one. This recipe doesn't include the 3 great runewords though, so you gotta farm for them, and the rewards are just phenomenal.

Still missing a screenshot / description of the last great runeword "Qor". If anybody of you out there finds one, do send a screenshot over. For more information on each of the runeword, click on the following link:-

Median XL Alpha v019b released!
The most noticeable change in this version is that it wiped your old characters off. So those who have diligently leveled up their characters using v018 and below, now you have to stop doing that and start a new one.
  1. Old uniques and set items have been removed and added with a new list.
  2. Skill balances and a new skill for the sorceress.
  3. New uberquest - Mbwiru Eikura (2nd Hell Gate in Act V)
  4. Purchasable Mystic Crystals which allow you to summon Bane Monster, Shredder & Daystar
  5. Uberquest minions & bosses have been upgraded. Expect a tougher fight.
  6. and many many other changes
  7. Click here to download Median XL ALpha v019b
  8. If you've found any bug, errors or any other non-working items, share them at Median Alpha forum at http://modsbylaz.14.forumer.com/viewforum.php?f=13

While waiting for the next alpha XL patch to be available (lots of new great changes), we'll try to cover some possible tips, strategies and techniques which you can use in order to get your precious uber charms. As there are quite a few uberquests available in Median, we'll try to break up these solutions into few different posts. There are basically straightforward kill and pickup your charm quests and some which need some strategy, time and patience. Uberquests can be broken down to 3 types, namely dungeon, summoning and uberlevels. Do take note however this guide is strictly on "how to beat it" and will ignore any information on some of the most basic information. If you need this basic information, you may find this information at http://modsbylaz.planetdiablo.gamespy.com/ubers_disambiguation.html or just simply by reading the documentation provided in your latest Median2008 copy.

Before we go forward, there are numerous excellent video guides / gameplay on youtube which covers some of the uberquests. Video - Click here, here, here, here and here.

DUNGEON

Creature of Flame - Ancient Tunnels (Lost City)
Pretty straightforward, kill and pickup charm, so I'll leave this out.
Video - Click here or here

Infernal Machine - The Pit Level 2 (Tamoe Highland)
Do take note that there's a significant change in difficulty between 2008 & XL in this area. In XL, there'll be stun novas and lots of other monsters around you when you enter, so basically speed is vital here, go straight and make the kill or you'll be in the trouble. Your minions and hireling might provide some meat and tanking support but the stun novas do not discriminate so best thing is to go for the quick kill.
Click here for the screenshot (XL)
Click here for the video (2008) - Unrelated but have a look at the Infernal Machine
Another video - click here - go to 1:26

Death Projector - Swampy Pit Level 3 (Flayer Jungle)
You need the mechanics to be nearby in order for the Death Projector to be open to attacks, otherwise it'll be immune. Don't bother attacking the mechanics as they're immune to everything (this sort of immunity is better known as the shield aura), but you need them or at least one so that you can kill of the Death Projector. Watch out for the energy beam, one hit you're dead. Some interesting facts:-
  1. You can always lead all but one to one corner of the dungeon and start whacking at the Death Projector.
  2. The beam always appear at 4 o'clock and rotates clockwise. So attacking it at 4 isn't a good idea.
  3. The mechanics heal the Death Projector everytime they kill a player / minion, bad news for summon base character for necromancer. Use nightmare to overcome this problem.
  4. Video - Click here

Azmodan - Forgotten Reliquary (Upper Kurast)
Another shield aura based area, where one unit is making the rest pretty much invulnerable. Defense and killing speed are vital, but depending on your strategy, character and selected skills, you might face different range of difficulties. Depending on the type of attack you're having (melee, range, spell) you either can:-
  1. Hit and run in circles.
  2. Lure and gather the minions at one corner of the dungeon and go straight for the kill. One way is to use the plain old simple fishing technique to one corner and run back to Azmodan or you can simply get most if not all to one corner, town portal back, and then take the waypoint and enter the place again.
  3. Run straight to Azmodan and whack him to death (provided that you can tank all the monsters around)
Azmodan is always in the middle area of the dungeon, so look for him there. If you have no idea how he looks like, he looks the same unit as Lister and the rest of the minions from Baal's 5th wave. Once he's dead, the rest are no longer invulnerable, depending on you, you might or might not want to kill them off.
Click here for the video (2008) - Go straight to 2:24

Rathma Square (Kurast Causeway)
Considered difficult by many, the invulnerable gore crawlers (they can be killed but come alive after 10 seconds) can be a nuisance if you don't micro them well. Once you enter the dungeon, there won't be any crawlers waiting for your entrance, go right, clear the area, and go straight down, you should meet up with Primus there. Primus is another Izual clone, so look out for Izual if you have no idea how Primus looks like. The crawlers hit hard so try not to get hit often and getting swamped with them at one go. Area of effect (AOE) damage could help, as your attacks will not only kill of the surrounding crawlers, but damage Primus at the same time. If you can summon minions, do it before entering as they can help absorbing some damage while you concentrate your attacks on Primus.
Click here for the video (2008) - Go straight to 3:47

Cathedral of Vanity - Underground Passage Level 2
The most difficult dungeon uberquest in Median. Imagine group of invulnerable units chasing after you with a "death projector" (crystal ball - the same structure which you can see a lot at the arcane sanctuary) like unit in the middle of the room just waiting to kick your ass. This dungeon uberquest itself is very unique, making you to systematically focus your attack on different unit(s) to wear of the "shield auras".
  1. Tanking is not sufficient here, you need avoiding, running and some mouse skills.
  2. First and foremost leave a town portal somewhere at the entrance Level 2 Underground Passage, the chances are quite high for you to leave your dead body somewhere here.
  3. You need to get the archers out of the way by getting them to camp at some other place than the main hall itself. A good place is to lure them within the room which you first appear when you enter the place.
  4. Once some of them are inside, run straight out and go for the crystal ball at the middle of the hall, at the same time avoiding the death beam it shoots. In Median 2008, the crystal ball remains still at one location, but XL introduces a teleporting crystall ball, so be prepared to chase after it. Don't bother about the rest as they're invulnerable, for now.
  5. Once you've destroyed the crystal ball, go for the 2 remaining high clerics which look like the Summoner at the Arcane Sanctuary. Locations might vary but most often than not, they're usually located at 7 and 4 o'clock respectively. Basically at the both bottom corners of the room.
  6. Once they're out, go for the big meat - Inarius, or to be ultra safe, kill the archers first and then you can have the fight one on one with Inarius.
  7. Click here for the video (2008) or this one (5:37) or this one
* This guide provided here is in no way perfect or deemed the "best" possible solution, but rather a guide / tips on how you can handle them. There are better players out there who can complete these uberquests in a much better way, which some of them can be found on youtube, or on the videos provided in the guides above.

Guides on Summoning & Uberlevels to come.
